Program Objectives

The Medical Physics Residency Programs at the Cross Cancer Institute are committed to excellence in teaching and research, and strive to be leaders in training Medical Physicists. The Programs aim to provide each of its residents with a superior education and clinical expertise. In achieving its objective of providing a superior education, the Programs must periodically review existing activities and plans, and seek opportunities to continuously improve and excel.

Medical Physicists are employees of Alberta Health Services and most have academic appointments with the University of Alberta through the Department of Oncology, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.

The Medical Physics Residency Programs are programs of the Medical Physics Department of the Cross Cancer Institute. The Department of Medical Physics Mission Statement states:

Consistent with the commitment by Alberta Health Services and the Cross Cancer Institute to the provision of high quality cancer care, the Medical Physics Department is committed to providing scientific and technical support for the clinical, teaching, and research activities of the Institute's treatment and diagnostic services; and leadership in the application of physics and engineering principles to cancer care.
